Contest Entry Steps

  1. Write your masterpiece! Get creative - use recycled or homemade instruments, perform your song in a stunning outdoor location, or just grab a friend to help with the harmony (no overdubs of existing songs, please).
  2. Record it on video (handheld cameras, smartphones, or video cameras).
  3. Post the recorded song on your own YouTube account and e-mail your link to ecostar@crd.bc.ca
  4. Submit your video as a hard copy via USB or data CD. Video format must be avi, mp4, mov or mpg and be submited in high resolution fullscreen (not letterbox) format. Submit to the CRD Main Headquarters at 625 Fisgard St., Victoria BC, V8W 1R7
  5. The videos will be uploaded to the Sustainable U website during the week of online community voting June 10 - June 17, 2013 at midnight.

Songs in the Key of Sustainability

What's the key?

Regional songwriters are asked to:

  • Compose a song on any subject that includes an environmental landmark or natural area of the region.
  • Croon a love song that takes place in a regional park.
  • Harmonize on how to be a good environmental steward.

The magic is up to you, just make sure you sing it green. Entries must be submitted by June 9, 2013

Prizes

First prize: $500 gift certificate, second prize: $50 gift certificate, third prize: $25 gift certificate to Larsen Music.

Contest Rules eastsookearbutus

  1. You must be a resident of the Capital Regional District.
  2. You or your group must be the original composers of the song.
  3. Your song must incorporate lyrics.
  4. You must be available to attend and perform at the evening EcoStar Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, September 24, 2013.
  5. Only one prize will be awarded for each winning place; if a group of musicians wins, the certificate shall be divided by the winners.
  6. All ages and levels of musicians are welcome to participate; this is not a professional contest.

EcoTunes is an initiative of the EcoStar Awards and the Arts Development office. The EcoTunes contest is being offered to support local artists, encourage environmental awareness and create opportunities for exchange and education between the arts and environmental sustainability. Get your voice and your art into the world and sing it sustainable.

Contest entries will be posted on SustainableU at the CRD's discretion.
