During the week of July 19-25 the CRD, along with BC Hydro Team Power Smart and Windsor Plywood, hosted free clothesline kit giveaways. As an added incentive to stop by and participate in Sustainable Laundry 101, the CRD and Windsor Plywood raffled off some great energy efficient prizes.
After winning a programmable thermostat, here's what one of our winners, Bruce, had to say about the Sustainable Laundry initiative, and household energy conservation.

Why is energy conservation important?
Because of the limited amount of non renewable energy sources on earth, it is important to conserve our current supply or to use renewable sources so that our natural resources will be available for future generations. Energy conservation is also important because consumption of non renewable resources impacts the environment.
Why should individuals take action on climate change?
[Because climate change] impacts include threats to human health, environmental impacts, such as rising sea levels that can damage coastal areas and major changes in vegetation growth patterns that could cause some plant and animal species to become extinct.
How else do you conserve energy around the home?
We save energy in our home by turning down the thermostat, by turning off appliances when they are not in use, by running the dishwasher only when it is full, by turning lights on only when they are needed and by turning off lights when we leave a room.
A special thanks to all of the 1,000 individuals that participated in the program and to Bruce for letting us know why energy conservation is important for our communities and the natural environment we depend on.
